ACTOR HEADSHOTS INFORMATION AND RATES
ACTOR HEADSHOTS: THE PROCESS
The beginning consultation holds great importance as it sets the stage for creating fantastic actor headshots that truly represent you and your expression as an actor. During this session, we’ll go through the clothes you bring and discuss the looks you want to achieve. Our conversation will cover the types of roles you typically audition for and the ones you aspire to. By cross-referencing this information with the projects filmed in Vancouver, we’ll work together to craft ‘castable’ actor headshots, placing you in the best position for success.
With my background of 5 years in professional acting and over 13 years as a photographer, having worked with over 1000 actors, I’ve developed a skill to identify the avenues where you can thrive in this challenging industry.
If you have an agent, you might already have specific looks in mind. In such cases, we’ll review the clothes you bring and plan the best approach to achieve those desired looks. Sometimes, agents may not fully grasp our range, so this consultation can also be an opportunity to reveal different sides of your talent that you know you can play.

LIGHT TEST
Once you are ready for your first look, I conduct a light test on your face and body. Each individual is unique, and it only makes sense to light you in a way that brings out your absolute best. If you follow my work, you’ll notice that I don’t adhere to a cookie-cutter lighting style. I am extremely specific about my lighting setups to complement your face shape, skin tone, and the character look we aim to achieve.
HOW TO LOOK INTO THE LENS
Before we start shooting, I take the time to teach you how to take a great headshot. From my experience, both in front and behind the lens, most people tend to feel uncomfortable when having their photo taken. My approach to actor headshots is very specific. First, I teach you how to look into the lens. If you look all of my work, you will notice one thing that everyone has in common: they all have presence and relationship in their eyes. You will too once you understand my approach. The eyes are the most crucial part of any headshot I take because it is your eyes that tell your story.

BE AN ACTOR
Next, I will guide you on how to leverage your acting training and experience to your advantage. As someone with an actor’s perspective, I approach actor headshots from an actor’s point of view. We will discuss the various elements you can draw from your training, allowing you to express your acting skills in front of my camera.
Even if you are a new actor without formal training, there is no need to worry; I have worked with hundreds of newcomers, and we achieve the same outstanding results. When asked about my approach to working with people, I always say that I adapt my method to their strengths after understanding how they operate. I am absolutely determined to produce actor headshots that you feel great about that look and feel like ‘you’.
CHARACTER
Casting directors and acting agents in Vancouver want you to have several different actor headshots that show you can play different characters. We focus on getting your version of these characters. During our photoshoot together, you and I will make sure that we are getting specific about the different roles that we think you can go out for. I want to put you in a position to succeed. I then set up the light and backdrop to help tell that story, making it easier for casting directors and directors to imagine you cast in their commercial, tv show, or movie.

SHOOT AND REVIEW
We take photos and review them together on the computer as we shoot. I do this for several reasons. First and foremost, reviewing the images on a 27″ screen is a great learning tool for you to see what you are doing and how you can improve. I work with you to figure out how we can take the photos to the next level. Additionally, it gives you the opportunity to track your progress.
As an actor, I never liked leaving a photoshoot only seeing the occasional photograph on the photographer’s camera, leaving my career in their hands. Reviewing your images as we shoot is extremely beneficial to you. We move on to the next look only when you feel that we have achieved what you originally set out to do. Though this may extend the time it takes to shoot your headshots, if it means getting great results, it makes all the sense in the world.
FINISHED PRODUCT
Once you provide me with your final image selections, I get to work and begin retouching them. Retouching plays a significant role in the process. My retouching style is time-intensive because I aim for your photos to appear as though they have not been retouched. It’s crucial that you still look like yourself, but the best version of yourself.
